About the Author

Kenith Bergeron currently serves as a Deacon and Coordinator of the ROPE program at Oakdale Covenant Church in Chicago. As a former Diversity and Equity Manager and then a Federal Mediator for the U.S. Department of Justice, Community Relations Service, for over thirty years he resolved community and employee conflict and prevented civil unrest and hate crimes under the 1963 Civil Rights and Hate Crime Protection Acts. He began and implemented the Rites of Passage Education (ROPE) program at Oakdale Covenant Church in Chicago, Illinois in 2011 with eight core ROPE mentors. The ROPE program at Oakdale has successfully matriculated over 100 African American youth teaching critical thinking skills, preserving Afrocentric traditions and spiritual values. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Conflict Resolution and is completing a Master of Theological Studies Degree.

His vision is that all inter-faith communities, churches, mosques, synagogues, gurdwaras and temples should mentor adolescent youth. Without proselytizing, assist them in developing critical thinking skills, moral integrity, responsibility, and create a fabric of legacy, tradition, hope and self-esteem.
